Real Madrid star, Marco Asensio, has revealed why he did not take Cristiano Ronaldo’s No. 7 shirt when the Portugal superstar left the club for Juventus.<br />
Asensio said the club never offered him the No. 7 shirt.<br />
Ronaldo opted to join Juventus in order to achieve pay parity with Lionel Messi and Neymar.<br />
Real Madrid opted against signing a direct replacement but Asensio has instead stepped up.<br />
The Spain star bagged the winner in Real’s 1-0 La Liga victory over Espanyol last night.<br />
When Ronaldo was first signed from Manchester United nine years ago, he was given the No 9 jersey.<br />
However, once Raul left Bernabeu to Bundesliga side Schalke, Ronaldo got the shirt.<br />
The no 7 shirt is now iconic for Real in the same way it is for United.<br />
Asensio said he was not given the opportunity to wear it with new signing Mariano Diaz, instead securing it.<br />
“They didn’t offer me the No. 7,” Express Sports quoted him as saying.<br />

However, according Richard Tanner of the Daily Mirror, that's unlikely to be the case for Ronaldo. It means that while he would miss the European showdown with Young Boys, he would be available for both matches against former club Manchester United later in the competition.<br />

Juventus star, Cristiano Ronaldo, has said that his overhead bicycle kick goal for Real Madrid against his current club in the Champions League last season was better than Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah’s goal which won the FIFA goal of the year award.<br />
The Portuguese wrote on Instagram, “Salah deserved to win the Puskas award, it was a good goal. But let’s be honest, let’s not lie to ourselves, my goal was the best.”<br />
The 33-year-old also congratulated former Real Madrid teammate Luka Modric for winning the FIFA best player award.<br />
Ronaldo lost out on both the Puskas award and FIFA The Best Player award to Liverpool’s Salah and Modric respectively.<br />
Salah won the award for his curling strike against Everton in the Premier League in December.<br />

Manchester United legend, Ryan Giggs has revealed what he expects from manager, Jose Mourinho’s men when they take on Chelsea at the Stamford Bridge in the Premier League fixture on Saturday afternoon.<br />
United head to the game following a 3-2 win over Newcastle in their last Premier League fixture, while Chelsea defeated Southampton 3-0.<br />
Giggs said he expects Mourinho’s side to rise up to the occasion and challenge the Blues in front of their home fans.<br />
The Wales coach added that for the Red Devils to be among top clubs on the Premier League table this campaign they must start to beat big teams.<br />
“There’s lots being spoken about Manchester United and Jose Mourinho, but if you go back to the last game against Newcastle then them coming back like that you’d hope would give them massive confidence,” Giggs told Sky Sports.<br />
“It’s the start of a massive period for them with Chelsea, live on Sky Sports, and Juventus coming up and also Manchester City not too far away, so they’ll need that confidence.<br />
“This is the period that United need to be getting up for the games and I wouldn’t be surprised if they come through this period pretty well because they are capable of playing against and matching the good teams.<br />
“I was at the game against Newcastle and the visitors played really well in the first half and you sometimes get that.<br />
“I played in games where you’re down 1-0 or 2-0 and you’re forced to go for it. With the attacking ability they’ve got they’ve always got a chance.”<br />
Giggs added: “Anthony Martial didn’t play well in the first half but in the second he came out flying and that’s nothing to do with the manager, that’s the player doing it for themselves, so sometimes you can’t put everything on the manager.<br />
“They got three goals in the last game so obviously the attacking threats are there, obviously you’d like to get that attacking intent for 90 minutes but if you play like that against Chelsea and go 1-0 down it’s a long way back – you can possibly get away with it against so-called lesser teams.<br />
“So this period really is crucial for Manchester United – if you beat teams around you then it gives you not only three points but huge confidence as well so if they come through this period with a couple of wins against the big teams then they’re back in it.<br />
“I’m not saying they can challenge for the title but they’re well capable of at least being up there and in these big games if one manager knows how to dig out results it’s Mourinho.”<br />
The kick-off time for the match is 12:30pm.

Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Nigerian player, Sheyi Ojo will be loaned out of Anfield before the end of this summer’s transfer window.<br />
Ojo spent the whole of last season on loan at Fulham and before then, he was sent out on loan to Wigan Athletic and Wolverhampton Wanderers.<br />
The 21-year-old impressed in the Reds’ pre-season matches but has found himself further down the pecking order following the signing of Xherdan Shaqiri from Stoke City last month.<br />
In an interview with the club’s official website, Klopp said: ”Here, it is a little bit difficult, especially for the offensive players.<br />
“Ojo played a fantastic pre-season, really good and confident technically anyway, really strong, improved a lot in tactical things and his attitude was great.<br />
”For me, he is a no-brainer, to be honest, and I think that will happen. It makes sense for him to go on loan. That’s how it is for a few of the others.<br />
”It’s not that we can decide that [the timing]. Yes, I wish I had the final squad four weeks ago, all together. But that’s a business, we have to wait.”

The first Vice President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi has said that he hopes that Chelsea winger, Victor Moses will change his mind and return to the Super Eagles ahead of Nigeria’s clash with Seychelles in the AFCON qualifiers.<br />
Recall that Moses retired from international football two weeks ago.<br />
Akinwunmi, who is also the chairman of Lagos State Football Association, disclosed this while speaking with sports journalists in Abuja on Wednesday.<br />
He, however, said that he is confident that Gernot Rohr’s men will be victorious in match-day 2 slated for September 8, 2018 in Seychelles.<br />
“We have the right attitude to work and the experience from the World Cup recently will help the team. Our players now play regularly for their clubs at the beginning of the season. I do not expect anything than a victory,” Akinwunmi said.<br />
“Now we have players that have played at the World Cup and that kind of experience tells us many things that we do not know before, Iwobi was a bit part player with Arsenal and the new coach has included him in the squad leading to him scoring against Chelsea.<br />
“I hope Victor Moses changes his mind and come back. People have been speculating why he left in the first place, I do not care, I hope that the coach can convince him to comeback because he will be a great addition to the team,” he concluded.

Chelsea and Leicester City have reacted to Super Eagles’ 3-2 victory over Libya in the 2019 African Cup of Nations, AFCON, qualifying encounter played on Tuesday night in Sfax.<br />
Nigeria had gone two goals up in the opening 17 minutes courtesy of Odion Ighalo and Ahmed Musa, before Mohamed Zubya and Ahmad Benali levelled for the hosts.<br />
However, Ighalo struck his fifth goal in three days against Libya, to seal three points.<br />
The two Premier League clubs monitored the game due to their respective players: Ola Aina and Wilfred Ndidi, who were in action for Gernot Rohr’s side.<br />
In their match review, Chelsea stated through their official website, that: ”In Africa Cup of Nations qualifying, Ola Aina played the full game as Nigeria edged a five-goal thriller against Libya.<br />
”The defender, who is on loan at Italian side Torino, started at right-back for the Super Eagles, who were 2-0 up inside 17 minutes thanks to goals from Odion Ighalo and Ahmed Musa.<br />
”The home side hit back, however, and after reducing the deficit 10 minutes before the break, Libya drew level 16 minutes from time.<br />
”There was still time for a further twist, though, and with just nine minutes remaining Ighalo scored his second goal of the game to win it for the visitors”.<br />
On their part also through their official website, Leicester City said: ”City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi also played the full 90 minutes as Nigeria defeated Libya 3-2 to go top of Africa Cup of Nations Group E.<br />
”An Odion Ighalo brace and a strike from former Fox Ahmed Musa were enough to secure victory for the Super Eagles, who were without City’s Kelechi Iheanacho, in Tunisia.”

Nigerian defender, Timi Sobowale has completed his transfer to Manchester City.<br />
Sobowale was linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur, having played for their U16s in a tournament in the Netherlands, but the Premier League champions have won the race for his signature.<br />
City had extensively scouted Sobowale before handing him a contract.<br />
The Citizens monitored Sobowale when the Republic of Ireland U15 national team faced Netherlands in a friendly back in February 2017.<br />

34. The Buhari administration has secured the approval of a grant of $1.1 million from the African Development Bank (AfDB) for the restructuring of the Bank of Agriculture, aimed at staff training to strengthen service delivery.<br />

35. The President Buhari administration has embarked on the re-validation of the claims of agro- dealers and input suppliers under the 2014 wet and 2014/2015 dry seasons to ensure that genuine claims are paid by the government.<br />

36. The President Buhari administration has facilitated the payment of the sum of N20 billion, as part of the debts owed agro-dealers while efforts are on to fully settle the outstanding liabilities.<br />

Accordingly, the PMB administration has commenced efforts towards resolution of pastoralists-farmers conflicts through the provision of 55,000 hectares of land by 11 states as part of the 5,000 hectares each expected from the 19 northern states for the development of pasture/paddocks grazing reserves.<br />

The Buhari administration has established 40 large scale rice processing plants and 18 High Quality Cassava Flour (HQCGF) plants with a stake commitment of China EXIM (85 per cent) and Nigeria Bank of Industry (BoI) (15 per cent) through concessional credit facilities of US$383,140,375.60 for the rice mills and US$143,722,202.40 for the HQCF Plants.<br />

The President Buhari administration through the Ministry of Agriculture is embarking on a programme of distribution of rice mills, of ten tons per day capacity, 20 tons a day, 40 tons a day, 50 tons and a few 100 tons. Collectively between them, the capacity for rice milling will be close to 3,000 tons a day nationwide. That is expected to close the gap between paddy availability and mills to process it.<br />

The President Buhari administration has established 10 large scale rice processing plants and 6 High Quality Cassava Flour plants to be owned and operated by the private sector and would be funded by the Special Rice Processing Intervention Fund and the WB Assisted Agricultural Development Policy Operation [AgDPO] Funds.<br />

43. Through President Buhari administration, Real GDP in agriculture grew by 4.11 per cent in the year 2016, and this growth rate was higher than that recorded in 2015 of 3.72 per cent.<br />

44. Under Buhari’s administration as captured by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), there was a continuing strong growth in Agriculture (especially Crop Production) in the Q4 of 2016.<br />

45. Agriculture contributed 21.26 per cent to nominal GDP in the Q4 of 2016 and the sector grew by 6.45 per cent year-on-year under President Buhari administration.<br />

46. In the Buhari-led administration, the contribution of Agriculture to overall GDP in real terms was 25.49 per cent in the quarter under review, higher than its share of 24.18 per cent in the corresponding quarter of 2015.<br />

47. The Ministry of Agriculture under President Buhari administration also provided 2283 bags of industrial salt to hides and skin dealers in 12 targeted states.<br />

51. Nigeria’s milled rice production has increased by about 60 percent, from 2.5 million MT in 2015, to 4 million MT in 2017 under the President Buhari administration.<br />

52. The Buhari-led administration set up the Presidential Fertilizer Initiative (PFI) to deliver commercially significant quantities of affordable and high quality fertilizer to the Nigerian farmer at the right time<br />

53. The Presidential Fertilizer Initiative (PFI) under the President Buhari administration has resulted in the revitalization of 14 blending plants across the country, with a total installed capacity in excess of 2 million MT.<br />
