So this self acclaimed super star who was largely unknown to most entertainers at this event, including myself, sends his P. A. to persuade me to disregard the order of events and call him immediately because he had a long list of other places to perform at that same night and he doesn't perform after a certain time as a matter of principle.
It is important to mention at this point that the event had only just began. I politely redirected his PA to go back to the "super star" and tell him to speak with the organizers, knowing I was answerable to them. He went away not satisfied. My guess was that they were not used to such reply. Maybe, the superstar was supposed to have an overwhelming reputation that preceded him which was supposed to leave me trembling. The stardom was lost on me.
I returned to the event like nothing happened, dishing out jokes where necessary and generally making my client and his guests have a fun filled experience. Among other things my balance was still at stake.
I announced the next item on the program amidst a very warm round of applause. I am not sure you saw this coming. It was not the superstar's name that I had announced . Well, truth is I did not also see his next move coming.
Livid he started advancing towards me as soon as he set his eyes on me backstage. He was shouting abusive words and expletives at me as he approached me. He was angry with me for disrespecting him instead of my client. I knew which side my bread was buttered and was determined to stay there. He would not let people slow him down.
This was going to be the mother of all world wars. I was not going to hesitate to use the moves I saw in Chinese movies. I did not see Jackie Chan and Jet Li movies for nothing.....
To be continued
